Simply put, our goal here was to clap back at Ted Cruz on Twitter. Senator Cruz is one of the more hated political figures in America, so we take extra pleasure in getting into spats with him on Twitter. The tweet we’re submitting was the last salvo in a multi-tweet back and forth with Cruz. You can see the whole exchange here. Our strategy here is to use our online platform to speak directly to newsmakers at any time as news is happening. It’s one of the ways that The Daily Show exists outside of its 11pm timeslot. In this case, we measured success in the amount of engagement and press we got, as well as the fact that we engaged a sitting US senator on the issues of the day.
