The goal was to put a human face to some of the data about the industry's lack of diversity, and package it smartly for exploration by many different stakeholders: students or aspiring professionals who want to join the industry; executives and industry leaders who can help effect change; and people generally interested in how business can play a role in building a more diverse, equitable future.
This digital publication brings to life new research and interviews related to the state of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the fashion industry, highlighting data from surveys of over 1,000 employees across 41 companies, complemented by dozens of interviews and several focus groups with community members. For the online experience, we emphasized showing authentic, human stories from fashion students and industry professionals, who shared their lived experiences and ideas for creating more inclusive workplaces; the end result is a rich multimedia package incorporating video, audio, data visualization, and interactive elements, along with interviews and action items.
The digital experience and its component parts attracted a better-than-average number of visits for our articles (we don’t share number of reads publicly) and was shared broadly with employees, affinity groups, and industry stakeholders.
