Objectives

With travelling put on hold through much of 2021, it became more important than ever to stay connected on social media. We wanted to create an Instagram live series to keep our growing community informed on the latest travel news and restrictions, as well as establish a deeper relationship with those following our channel. We also wanted to use these lives to connect with other voices in the travel space.

Strategy and Execution

We hosted a weekly Instagram live chat show every Friday at 12.30 for 30 minutes. The topics ranged from how the Omicron variant was impacting travel to surviving a quarantine hotel at Heathrow Airport. We hosted a number of guests on the show including Virgin Atlantic pilot Captain Chris, Lonely Planet Vice President Tom Hall, Anti-Female Genital Mutilation campaigner Nimco Ali and many more. Hosting guests from a variety of backgrounds helped us reach new audiences and develop our own community of ‘Teacups’ who would return every week for a relaxed and informative chat. We would always end our lives with a Q&A section to make sure we were directly interacting with our growing community. 

Results

To date we have published over 150 episodes of Cuppa TPG with a cumulative 1.3 million views. We are proud that we’ve offered advice, entertainment and respite from isolation in unprecedented times. The success of Cuppa TPG saw our Instagram grow by 20% in 2021 and allowed us to connect with some truly inspiring creators and personalities in the travel world. Cuppa TPG won a Travolution Award at the end of 2021 for ‘Best Use of Social Media’.
