Objectives

Politics, religion and money. Oh my! These three topics have always been known to be taboo to discuss at the dinner table. What, you don’t want to talk about the top five 2022 stocks to watch on the stock market? Innovative financial platform Remitly doesn’t see why not – and neither do we. Talking about money can be boring and dry, but it doesn’t have to be! Here is where Remitly makes its debut; the financial platform entered a new market, China, and asked us to showcase their partnership with the Chinese go-to social platform, WeChat. Not only is this a great way for Remitly to expand its demographic, but it is also the first money transfer app to partner with the giant social platform. Together, they allow people to seamlessly send money from the West to the East (10 min or less) with just a phone number or WeChat ID.

As Diana Ross famously sang – “there ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough” that can keep you from sending money to your loved ones. The real conundrum was informing people of Remitly’s services while keeping WeChat’s promotion restrictions for financial institutions in mind (AKA you are not allowed to promote) and still keeping it fun. The solution – providing WeChat users with a thought-provoking, interactive game to engage users and keep Remitly top-of-mind.

Strategy and Execution

Following the trend of the return of all things vintage, we created a crossword puzzle to connect users through classic yet informative fun. The Remitly game changed the dinner conversation to a topic that friends and family can appreciate, i.e. when an unexpected cost pops up back home in China, where the importance of sending money halfway across the world securely and reliably, in record time, and with competitive exchange rates is relevant and important.

Results

The results are modest but impactful, with 1,241 impressions, 489 views, a CTR of 39.40% and shares of 38.
