Feud: Bette and Joan Instagram

In FX's critically acclaimed new limited series, FEUD: Better and Joan, two Hollywood legends came crashing furiously towards each other.

To launch the first season of Ryan Murphy's anthology series, FX's marketing efforts had to have plenty of glitz, glamour, and most importantly, attitude. FX social worked to create a robust Instagram campaign that hit two important marks: a glamorous aesthetic to highlighting Hollywood flare, and a sharp, biting tone that could match the fierceness of our leading ladies. We wanted modern fans to understand the significance of this feud of the past and keep them entertained.

Why does this entry deserve to win?

With this objective in mind, we launched a vibrant multimedia campaign that brought old Hollywood back to life on social. To keep a cohesive campaign, we worked hand-in-hand with our designers to create an aesthetic that captured the look of the classic Hollywood, but with a modern twist.

Animated cutouts and kinetic typography were used on quote videos, while bright neon colors and animations brought custom shot countdown cards to life. The campaign caught the eye on any social feed.

The blend of old and new created a robust and unique campaign for the Instagram audience. Stylized character cards introduced our A-list cast, while animated kinetic quote cards highlighted the sassiest quotes, giving a perfect tease to what was to come for the rest of the series.

Results

By the end of its first season, FEUD's Instagram account had garnered over 27k total fans. Many of the custom designed graphics became the top performing and most engaging content throughout the season. The show's stars—including Susan Sarandon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alfred Molina and Alison Wright—liked and shared character cards and weekly quote cards to their personal social accounts. Now that's what we call a smash hit, darlings.
