We all have felt "other" at some point. The goal of this story was to make us misfits not feel so alone in the world. This video was originally published around Halloween and it follows the familiar and misunderstood character of the Witch and what her life looks like on the days that it is not Halloween.
There was no budget for this short film I set out to make. I was the writer, producer, director, shooter, editor, props department and lead actor. I recruited my incredibly trusting and supportive friends and family to play the supporting roles. And eventhough the story focuses around a fantastical character, I wanted it to feel as real and relatable as possible. To acheive this I made sure each shot of the Witch's daily life were taken in real spaces with real world objects. Due to budget restrictions, this project was also shot entirely on an iphone, and most shots were shot by me on a tripod. It was one of the most fun and challenging experiences I've had to date!
This video is 2.5 minutes long and it was being posted on TikTok, so I assumed it would not perform well due to the length and the attention spans of the audience. I was posting it because I thought it was an important story that may resonate with at least one person out there. The video went on to reach 1.6 million viewers on TikTok. I gained 35,000 followers. I couldn't keep up with the comments and messages. The video took on a life of it's own. And my heart was exploding that this story was resonating positively with so many people. Some of those people are the ones who encouraged me to submit this for an award. And that is why I'm here!
