Digital Town Hall: The Time of Peace in Colombia (Foro digital: La hora de la paz)

Entered in Facebook Live

Objective

The live streaming in Facebook Live of a Digital Townhall about the peace process in Colombia, hosted by Patricia Janiot —main anchor of CNN Espanol— in Bogota, Colombia, with four strong and distinct voices in favor and against the peace agreement between the government and the FARC guerrilla. The goal was to inform Latin America's audience about the challenges and achievements of the agreement ahead of the referendum in digital platform, with a high quality streaming and the engagement of our web users.

Strategy

CNN en Espanol, world's news leader in social media in Spanish, produced a town hall exclusive for its web users and social media followers in which they were able to ask questions through their devices to the opinion leaders of Colombia's political spectrum. CNN en Espanol teamed up with Universidad Javeriana for the production of the town hall in Centro Atico, an avant-garde and unique audiovisual studio in Latin America with state-of-the-art technology. With promotions in social networks and TV, we invited the users to connect to Facebook.com/CNNEE and CNNEspanol.com/foropaz for the town hall on Friday September 30, just two days before the historical referendum of the peace process. Users for all over the region sent their questions and opinions and got the chance to see the uncommon gathering of two senators, one former colonel kidnapped by FARC and one former departmental delegate kidnapped by FARC. During the town hall, moderated by Patricia Janiot —one of the most respected journalists in Latin America — the panelist offered their insights to a wide audience in Internet, especially for younger viewers. This was a unique experience: we successfully streamed in Facebook Live an event about a neuralgic subject in a critical time for Colombia —a forum usually exclusive for political conferences— in a way that could be reached by a Millennial audience as well as for every voter interested: just a click away.
