Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) is one of the nation's leading multidisciplinary arts centers. Located in San Francisco, YBCA believes emphatically in the vital role that contemporary arts play in community life. As the Bay Area grows and changes, YBCA gathers the region around creating and participating in the arts, as an essential part of enacting inclusive, equitable change in our communities. YBCA was founded in 1993 out of an expressed need for an accessible, high-profile San Francisco venue devoted to contemporary visual art, performance, film/video, and community programs representing diverse cultural and artistic perspectives. The organization has distinguished itself as a champion of living artists working in the Bay Area, nurturing emerging artists at the forefront of their fields, and bringing audiences and artists of all backgrounds together in inventive, impactful ways to express and experience creativity. YBCA joins online communities only when the organization feels that it has something unique to provide to that community, and when it feels it can impact people's relationship to arts institutions at large by the distinctive way YBCA participates within that community. YBCA’s Twitter is the stream-of-consciousness of a progressive arts center that views the connection between arts and the larger community as inseparable (and often hilarious). YBCA opens its Instagram account to all levels of its staff to tell the whole, multifaceted story of the life of a unique arts institution.
