Ryan was born and raised in Hilo, a small town of 50,000 people, on the Big Island of Hawaii. With nothing else to do after a night of bowling or movies, he organized his school friends to make videos. In 2006 came the discovery of YouTube, a digital camera, tripod and editing software. At first they did a lot of lip synching videos, then skits with a plot. He did a lot of rants -- things you think about but are afraid to speak -- he said it, yet always trying to be funny and not offensive. He started posting videos on YouTube because it was an easier way to share them with his friends. His YouTube channel now has more than 11 million subscribers.
