While the Shorty Awards have long-honored the best of social media, this competition includes efforts made by organizations to improve sustainability and diversity internally, foster globally-minded business partnerships and increase employee community and civic engagement.

From Wikipedia: 5 Seconds of Summer is an Australian pop rock band. Formed in Sydney in 2011, the band consists of Luke Hemmings (vocals, guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar, vocals), Calum Hood (bass guitar, vocals) and Ashton Irwin (drums, vocals). The group started posting videos of themselves performing covers of popular songs to YouTube. Their cover of Chris Brown and Justin Bieber's "Next to You" received over 600,000 hits. They have since amassed over 5 million YouTube views, and a large following on Twitter and Facebook. In February 2013, it was announced that the band would support One Direction on their worldwide Take Me Home tour. In November 2012, 5 Seconds of Summer signed to Capitol Records. In February 2014, the bank listed their worldwide debut single “She Looks So Perfect" for pre-order on iTunes. Within two days, it had reached the number one position in 39 countries.
