Named 2013’s Emerging Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists, Yamiche Alcindor reports on national politics, and, in 2014, covered the Ferguson protests from the frontlines, tweeting about getting stung with tear gas. Her social-media coverage moved her from multimedia journalist at USA Today to reporter at The New York Times, where she continues to tweet to her 30k followers about race, guns, and violence in America. Her documentary The Trouble With Innocence (2015)—partially crowdfunded on Indiegogo—followed a wrongfully imprisoned black men trying to rebuild his life with $93. The film premiered at the NYU Documentary Film Festival.
