Objectives

SportsCenter - ESPN's flagship program - provides TV's most thorough presentation of sports news, highlights and analysis. The show’s Facebook page strives to deliver that same experience while extending SportsCenter into the social space and making ESPN’s TV presentation better through social media. Whether integrating fan votes onto live TV, delivering high-end Photoshop art, curated "cool/buzz" content, links to sports news, highly-produced videos or creative storytelling, SportsCenter’s Facebook page answers the call of ESPN’s mission statement, which is "to serve sports fans anytime, anywhere."SportsCenter’s Facebook page separates itself from the field by providing a distinctive second-screen experience for sports fans. The unique opportunity to interact with ESPN TV through Facebook live votes creates direct interaction with the show, allowing instant feedback and making SportsCenter better. In addition, the page’s sophisticated sampling of high-end custom art, curated "buzz" content and links to the best of ESPN’s unparalleled sports coverage gives fans an exemplary social experience. The page also is a host for a variety of targeted campaigns, inviting fans to make their voice heard across ESPN’s platforms. In 2013, voting was held for a “Best of: This Is SportsCenter…" special, where fans voted for the top 10 "This Is SportsCenter…" commercials of all time. Based on fan voting results from SportsCenter’s Facebook page, the spots were ordered 1-10 and unveiled during a half-hour primetime special on ESPN. Additionally, SportsCenter’s Facebook page has a reach that its competition cannot measure up to. SC has nearly twice as many fans on Facebook as FOX Sports, CBS Sports and NBC Sports do combined. That speaks to the affinity that SportsCenter fans have for the show, and the quality of the work done on the show’s Facebook page that keeps fans engaged.
