You live. You learn. You give back. No one knows this better than people ages 50 and older, who have spent decades accumulating a wealth of knowledge that only life experience can bring. Armed with this wisdom, they are a powerhouse of innovation tackling some of the greatest societal challenges of our time and inspiring others to do the same.
The AARP® Purpose Prize® award is a $50,000 honor for five individuals in celebration of their achievements and to broaden the scope of the work of their organizations. The prize supports AARP's social mission by honoring extraordinary people ages 50 and older who tap into the power of life experience to build a better future for us all. This video series profiles the 5 winners of the 2019-2020 AARP® Purpose Prize® as an inspiration for others to find their purpose.
“The AARP Purpose Prize is all about a new story of aging — focusing on experience and innovation and the idea that our aging population is an untapped resource full of possibilities,” said AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins. “AARP Purpose Prize winners and nominees are role models. They are makers and doers who are out there creating new solutions that make the world a better place for people of all ages.”
AARP Studios worked closely with the AARP® Purpose Prize® staff to create a five-part profile video series that not only showcases the winners and inspires others, but serves as a promotion for the AARP® Purpose Prize® itself. Supplemental videos included calls for application to next year’s AARP® Purpose Prize® , and appeared across all major social media. On YouTube, the profiles were included in our ongoing series “Spinoffs” which highlights the second acts and side projects of people 50 and over.
With over 130,000 views on YouTube alone, the series has received excellent response, and the promotional videos derived from this series have been a huge driver of applications for the upcoming AARP® Purpose Prize® .
