Bring happiness and warmth to many of New York City's most disadvantaged children through the gift of brand new winter coats. When a child receives a brand new winter coat, she/he is able to attend school with pride on cold winter days. Self-esteem rises and children, school attendance increases and students get sick less often.
Operation Warm teamed with the New York City Department of Community Schools to identify the most "in-need" schools and homeless shelters in New York City and coordinated the distribution of 13,500 new Operation Warm winter coats to students. Students attending 35 Community schools and 7 supporting shelters received coats. Neighbourhood Community Based Organizations (CBOs) coordinated the coat giving at each school in their role as principal provider of social services at each of the over 100 Community Schools throughout New York City.
Operation Warm was able to provide these coats thanks to local and national funding from family foundations, Morgan Stanley, major donors and funds raised through national cause marketing programs by Groupon and Hollister.
13,500 of New York's most disadvantaged children receive the gift of a brand new winter coat and the Community Schools with their CBO partners were better able to serve the acute needs of their students.
