Objectives

In only fifty years, Florida International University has grown to be among the ten largest universities in the country and is number one in the nation for awarding bachelor's and master's degrees to Hispanic students. As Miami's first and only public research university, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees we're constantly thinking of ways to continue to help our local and international community succeed. We have found that the best way of doing this is by sharing our story.

Facebook and Instagram have been key factors in sharing the hardworking, fearless and limitless story of FIU on an international stage. As a matter of fact, it is our story that guides our posts. The story of diversity, overcoming adversity, developing solutions for global issues and creating a worldwide community of leaders.

Daily we reach people of every corner of the world with examples of the opportunities, resources and knowledge they can utilize with our FIU. Ultimately, the goal is to inspire our local and international community to think world's ahead and expand their mind with FIU.

Strategy and Execution

Every single post on our Facebook and Instagram account represents our commitment to telling the FIU story and informing and entertaining our local and international community.

Results

Our Facebook audience of over 100,000 and our Instagram audience of over 30,000 has been steadily and organically growing since we created our social media channels 7 years ago. In the past year, we have launched several campaigns to share the stories of our local community. Our My FIU Promise campaign told the heart wrenching but also quirky stories of several students who had set a personal or academic goal for the new year. The story of how and why they set the specific goal they chose to share reached over 135,000 people overall. Our Reach Higher campaign, aligned with Michelle Obama's Reach Higher initiative, shared the adversity many of our students overcame to pursue higher education. Not only did this campaign reach over 100,000 people, it gave younger students near and far an opportunity to picture themselves at a university despite any setbacks in their lives.
