W Hotels x Hotel Tales

Entered in Brand Awareness Campaign

Objective

Founded in the 90s, W Hotels broke onto the hospitality scene in loud opposition to “The Beige Age” – an era when bland uniformity and cookie-cutter experiences permeated hospitality and culture. In that moment, W Hotels redefined the industry with vibrant, design-forward experiences.

As the luxury landscape shifted toward a new generation of travelers, the brand sought a marketing platform that would reflect bold, design-driven environments across its properties. Part of this 360-approach was creating a campaign that would reclaim their place as cultural tastemaker in the eyes of an ever more discerning creative class, alongside bold yet timeless, design-driven hotel backdrops.

Strategy

To bring this campaign to life, we took ourselves back to the beginning. Determined to find a concept that was rooted in those unforgettable moments that can only happen at W Hotels, and the iconic characters who lived them.

To bring this campaign to life, we knew we needed more than just a visually stunning execution – we needed identifiable faces with interesting stories to tell. Our talent approach became the hinge for the entire campaign, ensuring that each story felt personal, engaging, and in line with W Hotels DNA. We worked with a diverse range of cultural figures, including award-winning actor Chloë Sevigny, artist Orville Peck and multimedia artist Miranda Makaroff, whose unique perspectives naturally lent themselves to the kind of unpredictable, ‘you had to be there’ moments W Hotels is known for.

Each story weaves surprise, authenticity, and creativity, reinforcing our brand’s reputation for offering bold, engaging guest experiences that invite audiences to truly feel the brand’s unpredictable appeal.

These aren’t just hotel stays. They’re moments you had to be there for, told by people you’re inevitably intrigued by.

The campaign delivered standout performance across digital platforms, premium editorial, and social. With its blend of ironic storytelling, bold visual language, and culturally resonant talent, the campaign brought W Hotels brand promise – “check in to the extraordinary” – to life through dynamic content across long-form video, paid media, and dark social.

The campaign's success has expanded across global markets, with four additional episodes going live featuring notable names such as Kenny Kwan (Greater China), Emma Winder (UK), Isaac Carew (UK); Adwa Bader (Saudi Arabia). Each has been produced following the same format and structure, validating the compelling nature of the campaign – regardless of language and market.

By tapping into W Hotels long-standing ability to attract cultural tastemakers, we didn’t just create content – we sparked curiosity. Each episode encouraged audiences to wonder: Who are they? What have they been up to? What story will I have when I check in? The campaign set the tone for a new era of W Hotels – one where every stay is a story waiting to be told.

Results

Across two seasons, Hotel Tales proved the power of people-centered storytelling to drive both cultural relevance and global scale. The campaign delivered breakthrough results globally, including a +24-point lift in unaided awareness in the US, outperforming the travel benchmark and ranking among the strongest lifts across Condé Nast Luxury Group campaigns.

Hotel Tales scaled into a true brand platform, generating 1.2 billion impressions worldwide across North America, Greater China, and EMEA. Beyond brand impact, the campaign translated storytelling into measurable business results: the “Meet Us Here” brand offer drove nearly impressionable revenue across over a thousand room nights, while maintaining a 2.2% increase in ADR (average daily room rate). Efficient lower-funnel media further reinforced performance, with tactics such as TikTok Search delivering a $0.97 CPC, significantly outperforming benchmarks and capturing high-intent travelers at scale.
