Objective

Background

Tidal Rave was created as an all-day beach festival experience built around sun, sand, music, games, culture, and community, with the concert serving as the climax rather than the sole attraction. Over time, audience perception gradually shifted, reducing the festival to what felt like just another concert. In 2025, the focus was to intentionally reclaim the full festival experience and rebalance how the festival is perceived, across both Ghana and Liberia, where Tidal Rave has been happening over the years.

Strategy

The strategy

The key challenge for 2025 was shifting how people experienced and talked about Tidal Rave. Although previous editions had improved operations and encouraged earlier arrivals, most conversations and media coverage still focused almost entirely on artist performances. The goal was to reposition Tidal Rave as a culture-driven beach festival where the full-day experience matters just as much as the music. The strategy was to build excitement around everything happening across the beach, from games and creative zones to lifestyle moments and community interactions, so that performances remained a highlight but no longer the only reason people showed up.

Creative Approach

The WILDCARD theme was rolled out through a digital-first approach designed to build curiosity and participation before the festival. It started with the For Ravers Only Community (FRO), Tidal Rave’s core Raver community, who received first-to-know updates and early clues about the direction of the festival. Artist announcements became a key part of the story. Ayra Starr was revealed as the first Wildcard, marking the first time an international act had been announced for the festival and immediately sparking conversations among Ravers about who the next Wildcard could be. That speculation carried through the campaign until festival day, when another Wildcard artist was revealed, keeping the sense of surprise alive. At the same time, Ravers and influencers fueled the conversation online through a fun AI trend, using their photos to generate and share their own versions of a Wildcard festival experience.

Another important shift was extending performances into the daytime to reinforce the idea that the festival experience runs all day. Black Sherif announced on social media that he would perform during the daytime, and followed through on it, creating one of the most memorable moments of the day at the beach. Alongside the performances, the festival’s look and feel was shaped by Culture Currents, a collective of creatives across fashion, dance, sustainability, art, and food who helped bring the theme to life. The Fashion Culture Current released a look book that inspired how Ravers dressed for the event, while the Dance Culture Current introduced simple Wildcard dance steps that people could repeat anytime certain songs played on stage. The Sustainability and Art Culture Currents created live creative moments during the event, including painting a giant mural and building a recycled material art piece. Around the grounds, smaller experiential touches like life-size gaming zones and spaces such as the Pink Beach added to the atmosphere and gave Ravers different ways to engage with the festival throughout the day.
