WWE Pays Tribute to 20th Anniversary of 9/11

Entered in Social Good Campaign

Objectives

With a passion to uplift individuals and families, WWE has proudly recognized and remembered those for their service and impact in their local community and country. Leading up to the 20th anniversary of September 11, WWE developed a campaign to honor the victims and organizations that brought our country back together.

Strategy and Execution

In addition to a dedicated Friday Night SmackDown at Madison Square Garden to pay tribute to the victims and their families, WWE also produced the documentary Never Forget: WWE Returns After 9/11. Premiering on WWE’s YouTube channel and Peacock in the U.S. and WWE Network everywhere else, Never Forget tells the story of WWE preparing for the live edition of SmackDown days after 9/11 that helped unite the country and bring joy to fans. WWE also organized a private screening of Never Forget to media and partners prior to SmackDown at MSG.

In coordination with WWE’s 9/11 20th anniversary efforts, WWE also honored and supported three organizations for their hard work and ongoing dedication to support families and communities affected by the tragedy, including:

Results

As part of WWE’s tribute, WWE presented 9/11 Day, Tuesday’s Children and Feal Good Foundation with the WWE Community Champion Award where each organization received financial grants for their tireless commitment to helping victims, family members and first responders over the past 20 years. Receiving complimentary tickets to attend the show at MSG, each organization was also recognized in the audience during the live broadcast of SmackDown on FOX.

Additional activations include WWE Superstar Zelina Vega, who lost her father in the World Trade Center attacks, reading the names of those who passed during the national ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in NYC, which was broadcasted on all major television networks throughout the day. WWE Superstars also joined 9/11 Day for a volunteer meal pack aboard The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. Together, they helped pack more than 700,000 meals for those in need in NYC.
