In promotion of WrestleMania 34, WWE partnered with Microsoft and virtual reality platform Littlstar to create a unique AR experience putting WWE fans closer to the action than ever. The project saw the competitors in WrestleMania's main event — AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura — turned into AR holograms, which were made available in the AR section of Littlstar's app. With this technology, users were able to see the combatants go face-to-face right in front of them.
In March 2018, WWE Champion AJ Styles and his WrestleMania opponent, Shinsuke Nakamura, headed to Microsoft's Mixed Reality Capture Studios in Redmond, Wash., where they were photographed with more than 100 cameras. Those images were then turned into unique 3D holograms, which were accessible in the AR section of the Littlstar App on Android devices. The holograms were made available to users in the week leading up to WrestleMania 34, and WWE fans were encouraged to place the main event competitors in unique locations — from New York City street corners to office desks — and share their creations across social media.
WWE's partnership with Littlstar and Microsoft received coverage in major trade papers like Variety, while behind-the-scenes videos were viewed more than 1 million times across WWE's digital and social platforms.
