Giving you “somewhere to go, when you’re feeling low,” the Instagram account literally offers fans roads to recovery by showing the world’s most depressing place names. Setting out to “spread sadness worldwide” on Instagram in 2015, graphic designer and photographer Damien Rudd has rapidly grown an Insta-following close to 100K. Each post revealing an unhappily named locale, from “End of the World, California” to “Murdering Beach Road, New Zealand” Damien’s viral success is creating new roads beyond the social realm, with corresponding books Sad Topographies, released 2017 and “the first atlas that matches our darkest feelings,” Triste Tropique, in 2018.
