Finalist in Activism

About Marley Dias

Stunned by the lack of black protagonists in her school’s reading curriculum, avid reader Marley Dias set to work. At just 11 years old, Marley launched a book drive in 2015, #1000BlackGirlBooks” with a goal to collect 1K books for black girls, about black girls. The resulting 9K collected spawned a viral movement that globally raised awareness about diversity in children’s literature. Now at 14, Marley’s three years of work garnered international acclaim as both a writer and activist, earning her a speaking engagement at the White House's United State of Women Summit, penning her first piece for Glamour, using her prolific platforms to continue her advocacy.
