In the hospital recovering from spinal surgery, Gloria Gaynor felt her career may have been over. But then the song “I Will Survive” crossed her path. Our goal was to have Gaynor tell the story behind the 1978 hit song “I Will Survive” and explain its lasting power to evoke a sense of nostalgia and pride among our Gen X audience.
We had Gaynor tell us her story while speaking directly to the camera. We asked her to describe what her life was like before the song, how the song came to her, and what life has been like since it was a hit in the ‘80s. She reflects on how she succeeded in converting a B-side single into one of the most powerful anthems in the world.
