With each new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race comes a whole new cast of queens for the audience to fall in love with. The diversity represented on Drag Race gives fans a chance to relate to someone in a way they never have, root for them to snatch the crown, and learn from the life experiences they share on the show. On the digital front, we take the lead when it comes to introducing these queens before the season. When the cast is first announced, we premiere a livestream on the Drag Race YouTube channel featuring interviews with each queen called Meet The Queens. These videos have become a fixture in the fandom, helping fans get a sense of who each contestant is before they walk through the Werk Room door.
We strategically release the Meet The Queens in the form of a YouTube livestream, giving fans a chance to discuss in the chat in real-time. They play back to back in alphabetical order, and help us get to know everyone better. For Season 15, we had sixteen incredible queens in the running for the crown. From the first Native Hawaiian contestant to the first Miami queen, these interviews allow the cast to introduce themselves to the audience and showcase a little bit before the season starts. After the stream concludes, we clip out the most snackable moments from the series, and post them as Reels and TikToks. The most famous of which is Scarlet Envy’s iconic “Am I The Drama?” viral soundbite.
Season over season, fans are highly engaged with Meet The Queens content. For Season 15, the YouTube livestream saw concurrent viewers peaking at 31K, doubling viewership compared to Season 14. The stream also trended at #2 on YouTube, and got fans excited for the season to start.
