Striker® II: the helmet that puts you inside the fight

Objective

In a high-stakes environment where seconds matter, the technology available to the pilot in the cockpit can define mission outcomes. We set out to create a product video that showcases our advanced innovation for the real-world demands pilots face. The goal was to demonstrate how the Striker II® Helmet-Mounted Display offers pilots unparalleled situational awareness with next-generation night vision, optional 3D audio, and battle-proven target tracking technology. Most important, we needed to convey how the information is displayed in an intuitive way, allowing for a natural response in what can be the most challenging and unnatural of environments.  

Strategy

To bring the Striker II Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD) system to life, we embarked on a multi-faceted creative journey. We began by sitting down with a Subject Matter Expert (SME), whose insights and expertise would serve as the foundation for our narrative. The SME's interview was carefully woven throughout the video, providing an authentic and authoritative voice that lent credibility to the story, making the technology feel tangible and accessible.  

To visually showcase the system's capabilities, we filmed footage in the manufacturing spaces, capturing the intricate details of Striker II's design and function. Next, we created cutting-edge computer-generated (CG) graphics, bringing to life the elements that only reveal themselves while wearing the helmet. This seamless mixture of live-action and computer-generated imagery created an immersive experience, allowing viewers to fully appreciate Striker II's features and benefits.  

To maximize the video's reach and impact, we developed a versatile content catalog, featuring a range of formats, including a full-length video, 30 second streaming version, trade show version, and bite-sized snippets optimized for social media. This strategic approach enabled us to cater to diverse audiences and platforms, ensuring that Striker II's story would resonate with viewers across various touchpoints. 

The true innovation of this project lies in its bold approach to narrative construction. By utilizing the SME's interview as the actual voiceover, we effectively transformed their expert insights into a compelling narrative thread that runs throughout the video. This technique not only added an air of authenticity to the storytelling but also created a sense of intimacy, drawing the viewer into the world of the Striker II HMD system. 

One challenge that we had to overcome was filming in a busy manufacturing space and ensure no sensitive information was captured. To overcome this, we worked incredibly close with a number of teams to ensure that we got the best shots possible which would make the film captivating, while ensuring we didn’t capture any sensitive information. We filmed all our shop floor scenes in a space of the manufacturing area that we could control.  

Results

The biggest success of this video is the flexibility that the different variants provide. By having a full-length video, tradeshow variant and social media clips, we’ve tailored to a broad range of audiences and can be used much-more widely by our stakeholders. 

The Striker II video was also produced in time for the biggest tradeshow of the year, DSEI London, where the tradeshow variant was used as a tool by business development colleagues to explain the benefits of Striker II to customers in a different and engaging way. The social media variant was posted on our channels to generate interest and boost tradeshow booth traffic. 

We incorporated the full-length video onto our Striker II webpage, and it has enhanced the user experience. It provides a great overview of the features and then visitors can find out further details on the rest of the webpage. The video resonated with audiences worldwide, driving meaningful engagement and views. Overall, the Striker II video effectively captured the attention of its audience and held their interest. It is currently receiving more than an 80-percent watch-through rate.
