Objective

Now You Know is an initiative led by an all-female production team.The series is aimed at amplifying the voices and stories of women from the Global South and beyond.

We strive to create a safe space for open discussions on a variety of topics, ensuring women feel connected and supported as they share their personal experiences. And we interview experts to provide our audience with free access to vital information about health, cultural awareness, and lifestyles that might otherwise be overlooked.

Recognising that news is a pillar of Al Jazeera, we also focus on understanding women's roles on the frontlines of significant current events. Through the lens of those advocating for justice, we showcase the resilience and leadership of women in the face of adversity.

 

Strategy

Executing Now You Know, Al Jazeera digital’s premier female-focused series, has been an inspiring journey filled with collaboration and creativity. Gathering diverse groups of women has sparked a wealth of ideas and connections which has only served to fuel the series' development.

Our strategy began with in-depth research to understand the unique perspectives and stories that resonate with our audience. We curate mainstream topics to reflect the diverse communities in the Global South, ensuring representation and relevance. We provide a platform for Black women, addressing their unique challenges and experiences. Additionally, we connect with women in war-torn regions, giving them a space to share their stories—voices that are often overshadowed by the turmoil around them. 

We’ve established a clear plan of action: curate engaging content that highlights women's voices, foster a community around shared experiences, and ensure representation across various sectors. Each episode is designed to not only inform but also empower women by providing them with actionable insights.

Now You Know is available as both a podcast and vodcast, and we've found that these two platforms have had an equally significant impact on engaging our audience. You might also think that it’s only women who tune in. Surprisingly, not at all. Our viewership reveals a nearly balanced demographic of both male and female listeners. We see this in our own analytics and engagement metrics, with men sharing how the topics resonate with them and the women in their lives. We take pride in providing a platform that allows individuals from all backgrounds to learn from, engage with, and support one another.

Creating an interview one-on-one series has, of course, come with certain challenges. Our host is based in our Doha studios and our guests, from every part of the world. So navigating the logistics of producing high-quality content across different formats has been a top priority. To execute this, we’ve dedicated resources to training and equipping our team to ensure a high standard of production and authenticity.

 

Results

Now You Know is Al Jazeera English digital’s newest podcast. Since we launched the weekly series on September 9, 2024 we have amassed 1.4 million listens and views across audio and YouTube.

Throughout this journey, we have remained committed to adaptability and responsiveness, continually refining our approach based on audience feedback and emerging issues that impact women's lives. Our unique focus on empowering women while fostering community engagement sets Now You Know apart, driving us to inspire change and amplify voices that matter.
