Why Can't We Talk About Amanda's Mom?

Entered in True Crime & Documentary Podcast

“Why Can’t We Talk About Amanda’s Mom?” is a narrative podcast, and over the course of 8 episodes, host Sarah Cailean investigates the murder of Renée Bergeron in real time. Throughout the series, listeners will hear interviews from Renée’s family, key witnesses, criminal psychologists and even suspects, as Sarah tries to solve this murder. This podcast brings attention to an unsolved and brutal murder that was completely overlooked at the time. It also poses the question, how are sex workers treated by police and how are they viewed by society? This podcast shows that even though this case is unsolved, there are people out there that care about Renée, justice and finally finding closure. Host Sarah Cailean is currently serving as a Special Investigator for the Mobile County (AL) Sheriff’s Office major crimes squad, leading the investigation into several cold case homicides. She’s also a team investigator for the Cold Case Foundation and was inducted this year as an investigative member of the internationally renowned Vidocq Society. She’s dedicated her career and life to bringing justice to victims of violent crimes, and she’s spent the past three years investigating the murder of Amanda’s Mom.

Strategy and Execution

Over the course of 8 episodes, host Sarah Cailean recounts her three-year investigation into this unsolved and perplexing murder that seems to leave more questions than answers. With the full support of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the victim’s daughter, Amanda, she revisits the original investigation, digs up new evidence, and interviews new suspects - recording every step of the way. Cailean hopes to rectify the mistakes of the past and bring some answers to a family still struggling to make sense of what happened – and uncover just why it has been so hard to talk about.
