Emergent BioSolutions endeavors to raise awareness among the general public regarding the importance of carrying Naloxone, a life-saving drug capable of reversing opioid overdoses, while also aiming to shed light on the severity of the opioid crisis. As part of this overarching mission, Emergent BioSolutions has curated the podcast series "Countermeasures" to complement these educational efforts.
From Drs and first responders, mothers who have lost children, people in recovery and those out on the ground every day, Countermeasures uncovers the various people and communities impacted by this crisis, uncovering their struggles and celebrating their triumphs.
Countermeasures also aims to help reduce the stigma associated with opioid use dependency by fostering open conversations and providing resources to listeners.
The show is a narrative/interview hybrid format. This structure allows each episode to be listened to on its own while ensuring the series has a cohesive feel. Each episode has 2-3 interviews that are woven together to create a narrative in each episode, and an unnamed narrator provides additional context when needed. Interviews feature people from a wide variety of backgrounds to illustrate the far reach of the crisis.
Paid and organic marketing tactics have been deployed to ensure the podcast reaches a wide audience, and guests were selected from across the US and Canada to ensure that perspectives from various communities were captured.
Countermeasures has performed very well and has earned extremely positive reviews from Emergent’s partners, members of the medical community and the general public. As of February 2024, the show has 7 full-length episodes live and over 41,000 downloads. Listeners from across the United States and the world have reached out to show their support.
