Coca-Cola Vending Machine - Revolutionizing refreshment

Finalist in Creative Use of Technology


Vending machines are in every corner of the world; from stadiums, to stations, they’re part of the fabric of life. Yet, despite its ubiquity, the classic vending machine still remains a passive, transactional experience. Coca-Cola challenged us to re-envision the vending machine for today’s connected audience.


Strategy and Execution

While the iconic shape remained unchanged, everything else underwent a revolutionary transformation from the inside out. We (re)powered it up with Snapchat’s groundbreaking AR technology and equipped it with a custom screen and camera - breathing new life into an old machine.

We created a first-of-its-kind gesture-based navigation with inbuilt advanced body tracking, so that users can experience the magic as they play, engage, virtually try on exclusive merch, and explore trending Snap AR lenses. Our AR-powered vending machine is big, bold and bursting with Real Magic.  No tricks, all tech.

This project involved a total overhaul of a standard Coca-Cola vending machine – modifying both hardware and software to create the machine of the future, today. We integrated Snap AR into the vending machine using Snap’s world class Camera Kit technology, designed and installed a custom screen and camera rig, and the machine also got an AR-powered interface upgrade that is controlled by incredible gesture interaction – with an intuitive and user friendly navigation built from cutting edge 3D mesh-tracking that was the result of extensive testing, iterating on the design and retesting interactions to ensure the experience was nothing short of magic.
