The Official Winning Time Podcast is a companion podcast to HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty series that launched on HBO Max. The podcast was created to give listeners behind-the-scenes details of the making of the show, interviews with cast and crew members, and exclusive conversations with life-long Lakers fans like Snoop Dogg. We wanted to connect with the audience on a deeper level and provide additional context and content to superfans, new fans of the show and everyone in between.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is hosted by writer and executive producer Rodney Barnes. Each week Rodney takes listeners behind the scenes with guests to unpack the stories, characters, and real life inspiration behind the show. Guests include Winning Time director and executive producer Adam McKay, break-out star Quincy Isaiah (who played Magic Johnson), Snoop Dogg and more. Each podcast episode was released right after the episode aired on HBO Max, so fans could come to the podcast after they watched, and dissect each episode. The goal in creating this companion podcast was to keep all types of listeners engaged before, during, and after the show aired.
The podcast consistently charted on Apple’s TV&Film and After Show charts. It was also featured on a variety of major media outlets like The Hollywood Reporter, Decider, HipHopDX, The Midwest Sports Network and REVOLT. Overall, the podcast deepened fan engagement with the show.
