PBS KIDS Rocks! features original songs by the bands Old Crow Medicine Show, The Weepies and Ozomatli. These 1-minute songs aim to teach kids math (“Mathematica Mind”), science (“Gravity”) or English (“Pronouns”) lessons. For PBS KIDS social media platforms, we went behind the scenes with these bands in the series "PBS KIDS Rocks! Behind The Scenes "to learn about their song-writing process, the teamwork involved in being a member of a band, and all the jobs it takes to create a music video.
With all of our behind-the-scenes content, we strive to showcase the diversity of people and talent it takes to create what you see on PBS KIDS. It also gives us the opportunity to share with parents, caregivers and teachers the education curriculum, variety of professions and real-life impact of PBS KIDS series. PBS KIDS Rocks! is a way to encourage that learning through song and introduce kids to the bands their parents love.
We shared the long-form videos on Facebook and shorter 1-minute long square videos on Instagram. Each band also did an Instagram Stories takeover on the day their music video premiered. Each band shared their videos on their social media platforms, and it was a way to share their new music and introduce PBS KIDS to their super fans. The cross-promotion gained PBS KIDS new followers on each platform. The bands were able to share new music with their fans who may also have children.
