Vamos Pa’lante

Entered in Audio & Music, Multicultural Campaign

Objective

Through vibrant 2D animation, original illustration, and music, Vamos Pa’lante brings to life the spirit of resilience that continues to define communities across California. During a year marked by uncertainty and challenges, the campaign shined a light on the strength of people who, no matter how difficult the circumstances, continue to stand together, organize, and move forward with hope.

The creative approach allowed us to visually represent the many diverse communities that make up California. Every illustrated scene was thoughtfully crafted to capture the solidarity and perseverance that these resilient communities emit.  Rather than allowing life changing challenges to define the story for their communities, the animation focuses on what happens in response: coming together, finding strength in one another, and continuing to push forward.

The vibrant visual language and original music reinforce this sense of movement and optimism. Even when circumstances feel overwhelming, there is an enduring energy that comes from collective action, community organizing, and a deep-rooted belief in the power of democracy. Each scene builds upon that idea, creating a portrait of California that is grounded in determination and hope.

At the heart of the campaign is a simple message: difficult times do not diminish the strength of a community. Vamos Pa’lante, “let’s move forward”, is more than a catchphrase. It embodies the spirit of continuing on, even when the path ahead is uncertain. It is a call to persevere, to stand together, and to believe in the possibility of progress.

Strategy

Our plan of action began with a clear creative challenge: how could we represent communities across California facing very different hardships, from devastating wildfires and immigration uncertainty to healthcare cuts and growing challenges to social justice efforts, while telling a story that felt united rather than divided?

We found our answer in the things that connect us. Nature and our shared humanity became central to the visual language, most notably through the California redwood. With its deep roots, resilience, and cultural connection to the state, the redwood became a powerful symbol of what it means to remain standing through adversity. Around this imagery, we used vibrant 2D animation and illustration to represent the different ethnicities, cultures, and lived experiences that make up the fabric of California and, ultimately, the country.

It was equally important to show communities not only through the challenges they faced, but through the ways they come together. We incorporated moments of gathering, celebration, service, and cultural expression to reinforce a sense of collective strength. To keep that representation authentic, we also cast a social justice advocate from one of the communities featured in the campaign, grounding the creative in a voice connected to the work itself.

That same thinking shaped our approach to music. Rather than creating a somber soundtrack centered on hardship, we chose a celebratory genre with rhythmic instrumentation that felt culturally recognizable and immediately evoked a sense of movement, gathering, and perseverance. Poetry, lyrics, and sung performance were then woven together with the animation, allowing the music and visuals to reinforce one another throughout the piece.

One of our greatest creative challenges was balancing the seriousness of what these communities were experiencing with a message rooted in hope. We did not want to minimize their struggles, but we also did not want hardship to define them. By combining symbolism, culturally representative illustration, authentic voices, and celebratory music, we created a campaign that acknowledges difficult realities while bringing to light something even more powerful: the enduring spirit of resilience and our ability to keep moving forward, together not just in California but throughout the country.

Results

We produced "Vamos Pa'lante" to visually honor the resilience of California's diverse communities, and the results confirm that message resonated widely. Across Meta, TikTok, and YouTube, the campaign drove 2.7M video views at a 92.64% overall view rate, a significant jump from 2024's 81.49% rate, showing that audiences engaged far more deeply with this year's story of solidarity and hope.

Platform performance reinforced the strength of the storytelling itself. On Meta, the 30-second cut achieved a 94.36% view rate and 5.60% engagement rate while on TikTok, the 15-second version drove 563K views and over 1,500 clicks, showing the message translated into action even in a fast-scrolling environment. And on YouTube, “Vamos Pa’lante” resulted in an average of 456K views with a 79.51% view rate and an 83.98% engagement rate across our 15-second, 30-second and Full Length (90s) creative, further validating that the animation's emotional core cut through regardless of platform or format.

"Vamos Pa'lante" reached people where they live and reminded them they're not moving forward alone.
