Proof Positive: Autism Wellbeing Alliance

Entered in Social Movement Campaign

Objective

For too long, conversations about autism have focused on developmental milestones and functional outcomes while overlooking one of the community's most important priorities, wellbeing. Proof Positive set out to change that by creating a campaign that elevated autistic voices and encouraged a new way of thinking about success in autism care.

The campaign centered on one belief that guided every activity. Everyone deserves happiness, including autistic individuals. To build support for that idea, Proof Positive launched the first national Autism Wellbeing Survey, gathering perspectives from more than 1,000 autistic individuals, caregivers, educators and service providers across the United States. The findings showed overwhelming agreement that wellbeing should be a priority and provided the data needed to move the conversation forward.

The survey was only one part of the campaign. Proof Positive used the research to bring people together through the Autism Wellbeing Alliance, the Everyone Deserves Happiness Summit, monthly Autism Wellbeing Meetups, media outreach, thought leadership, influencer partnerships and free educational resources. Each effort encouraged people to learn from one another, share lived experiences and help create a future where wellbeing is prioritized as an outcome of autism services and supports.

The campaign sought to grow a community that continues to advocate for autistic wellbeing and ensure the voices of autistic individuals remain at the center of conversations about autism support.

Strategy

Proof Positive knew that changing the conversation around autism required more than publishing research. The campaign was designed to create opportunities for autistic individuals, families, educators, providers and advocates to learn from one another, share their experiences and take part in building a stronger community around wellbeing.

The campaign began with the Autism Wellbeing Survey, the first national survey focused on understanding how the autism community defines and prioritizes wellbeing. More than 1,000 people participated, providing critical data showing wellbeing is the community's highest priority, while also identifying the barriers that prevent it from becoming a consistent part of autism care and education.

The survey findings became the foundation for every part of the campaign. Proof Positive developed tailored earned media pitches, thought leadership articles and educational content that translated the research into practical conversations for educators, caregivers, healthcare professionals, policymakers and autistic individuals. Rather than sharing statistics alone, the campaign focused on what those findings meant for everyday experiences and why wellbeing should become a shared priority.

The campaign also created opportunities for direct community participation. The Autism Wellbeing Alliance invited people to join a growing network committed to advancing autistic wellbeing. Monthly Autism Wellbeing Meetups provided dedicated spaces where autistic self-advocates, family members, educators and providers could connect, exchange ideas and learn from one another. These conversations ensured community voices continued shaping the work beyond the initial campaign.

On the International Day of Happiness, Proof Positive hosted the first Everyone Deserves Happiness Summit, a free 12-hour virtual event featuring leaders in autism, positive psychology, education and mental health. The Summit connected a global audience around one shared message: happiness is a human right and autistic individuals deserve joy, connection, meaning and belonging. Attendees left with practical, evidence-informed skills they could implement immediately.

Influencer partnerships, paid media and social content helped extend the campaign beyond Proof Positive's existing audience.  To make the subject more accessible, creators shared their own lived experiences and integrated survey results. This drove audiences to engage with free tools and register for the Autism Wellbeing Alliance.

Every element of the campaign supported the same goal: creating a community where autistic voices are at the center and wellbeing becomes the foundation for autism support.

Results

The campaign successfully transformed original research into an ongoing community focused on advancing autistic wellbeing.

The Autism Wellbeing Survey engaged more than 1,000 autistic individuals, caregivers, educators and service providers, creating one of the largest national conversations around wellbeing in the autism community. The findings continue to provide a shared evidence base for conversations about autism care and support.

The campaign generated 593 press release pickups, including PR Newswire syndication, reaching a potential audience of 109.8 million people. The release generated more than 6,100 visits and 2,200 engagements, demonstrating strong interest in the campaign and its message.

Survey influencer partnership with creator MyBrotherMaxie helped extend that reach even further. Campaign content generated more than 2.17 million views across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, along with more than 171,000 likes, nearly 1,900 comments, more than 9,500 shares and sends and more than 5,400 saves.

The campaign also created opportunities for continued participation through the Autism Wellbeing Alliance, monthly Autism Wellbeing Meetups and the inaugural Everyone Deserves Happiness Summit, ensuring community members had ongoing spaces to connect, learn and contribute.

Additional campaign results include 2,365 visits to the Autism Wellbeing Survey report, 1,792 Autism Wellbeing Alliance signups, 2,762 report and resource downloads, 314 Everyone Deserves Happiness Summit registrations and attendance with almost 12,000 minutes of session participation, and 107 participants in monthly Autism Wellbeing Meetups.

Together, these efforts helped establish a growing community where autistic voices guide the conversation and wellbeing is recognized as an essential part of autism care rather than an afterthought.
