DadsTimesTwo: Redefining Modern Fatherhood

Entered in LGBTQ+, Storytelling, Youth & Family

Objective

DadsTimesTwo was built from a simple belief: modern fatherhood deserves to be seen in all its forms.

As two gay dads who openly documented our surrogacy journey, marriage, parenthood, and everyday family life, we quickly realized we were sharing something many people had rarely seen represented this openly, honestly, and joyfully. What started as sharing our own story became something much bigger.

Our goal was never simply to create family content. It was to help redefine what modern fatherhood can look like while breaking outdated perceptions around parenting, masculinity, and LGBTQ+ families.

By showing the raw, emotional, hilarious, chaotic, and deeply human reality of raising children, we set out to normalize conversations around LGBTQ+ family building, create meaningful representation, and build a space where people felt connected, hopeful, and seen.

Through emotionally honest storytelling, relatable parenting humor, and recurring creative series like Dadventures, our mission has been to create content that entertains while also making a meaningful cultural impact.

As our platform grew, so did our responsibility. We intentionally used our visibility not only to tell our story, but to advocate for broader LGBTQ+ representation through partnerships, community engagement, and support of organizations helping advance equality and visibility for queer families.

That mission has helped grow DadsTimesTwo into a highly visible platform and earned recognition including a 2026 Webby Award nomination for redefining modern fatherhood through digital storytelling.

Strategy

Our execution centered around one core creative decision: storytelling over traditional family lifestyle content.

Rather than simply documenting family life in isolated moments, we intentionally built DadsTimesTwo around narrative driven short form content that audiences could emotionally follow, relate to, and return to.

That storytelling approach began long before parenthood itself. By openly sharing our surrogacy journey, including the emotional uncertainty, setbacks, difficult moments, and realities of the path to becoming dads, we invited audiences into a deeply personal story with real emotional stakes. That vulnerability created a level of connection that became foundational to our platform.

One of our most recognizable storytelling executions is Dadventures, our recurring cinematic mini series that transforms family travel, parenting milestones, and everyday moments into elevated episodic short form storytelling. By creating recurring “episodes” rather than isolated posts, we gave audiences recognizable programming that strengthened retention, emotional investment, and shareability.

We balanced those larger storytelling moments with relatable day to day parenting humor, allowing the content mix to feel both emotionally resonant and broadly entertaining. This became a defining part of our voice: heartfelt storytelling alongside the completely unfiltered reality of parenting two young children.

Authenticity shaped both the content and execution. Rather than overly polished production, we intentionally preserved the rawness of family life so audiences felt invited into real moments instead of curated perfection.

As the platform grew, execution expanded beyond content creation into advocacy aligned partnerships and community impact through collaborations with Gayety, Gays With Kids, and support of Lambda Legal initiatives.

A significant challenge has been navigating public visibility as an openly LGBTQ+ family creator account, where family centered content can still attract criticism or bias. Our response was consistency. Rather than softening our presence, we doubled down on authenticity, joy, and openness.

By combining emotional long form storytelling, recurring creative formats like Dadventures, relatable parenting humor, authentic day to day visibility, and advocacy rooted in lived experience, DadsTimesTwo evolved into a differentiated storytelling platform helping reshape what modern fatherhood looks like.

Results

DadsTimesTwo has grown far beyond what we ever imagined when we first started sharing our story.

While our audience has grown significantly, the most meaningful result has never been the numbers. It has been the people.

We regularly receive messages from followers sharing that our family helped them feel seen, less alone, more hopeful about their own path to parenthood, or more accepting of families that may look different from their own. For many LGBTQ+ individuals and aspiring parents, simply seeing our story unfold openly has created representation they had not experienced before.

What began as sharing our own journey has grown into opportunities to help others navigating similar paths. Through podcast conversations, interviews, and media features with outlets including Gayety and Gays With Kids, we’ve been able to answer questions, share honest experiences around surrogacy and family building, and hopefully make that road feel a little less overwhelming for others.

As our platform grew, we also felt a responsibility to use that visibility for something bigger than ourselves through LGBTQ+ advocacy, visibility efforts, and support of organizations including Lambda Legal.

Our storytelling has also been recognized in meaningful ways, including a 2026 Webby Award nomination for redefining modern fatherhood through digital storytelling, which was an incredibly humbling milestone.

For us, success is not simply growth. It is knowing that by showing our family honestly, we may have helped someone feel seen, hopeful, or more open to the many ways families are built.
