Objective

At Warner Bros. Discovery, storytelling is our greatest strength, and we believe deeply in the power of the individual to spark meaningful change. Change Drivers was born from that conviction, but its origins were humble: on our Pan-European feeds, we have airtime to fill between programming, and rather than leave that space empty, we asked ourselves how we could use it for good. What started as a filler project became a purposeful decision to send a social good message to our audiences during that time. That simple idea grew into a short form documentary video series amplifying the voices of extraordinary environmental activists and change-makers, inspiring global audiences to reflect on, and take action toward the issues shaping our planet's future.

Change Drivers is a two-time award-winning WBD video series (Gema Awards 2025, Promax 2023) that has reached over 200 million viewers in 160 countries, giving voice to the environmental change-makers inspiring our planet's future.

Strategy

When we discovered pockets of free inventory that would otherwise be filled with routine content, we asked a simple question: What if we used this space to do some good? This insight led to the creation of a campaign showcasing real people making a difference in the world. By elevating stories of those who sparkle change, we turned unused media space into an opportunity to inspire audiences and celebrate the power of individual action.

We partnered with experienced creative impact studio Studiobirthplace to bring the series to life. Together, the team conducted extensive global research to identify the most compelling and dedicated individuals working on the frontlines of environmental change. We established a clear selection checklist to guide the process — yet choosing proved incredibly difficult, a challenge that itself became a powerful revelation: the world is full of deeply committed people doing extraordinary work. That discovery reinforced the very premise of the series.

We leveraged our storytelling expertise and global platform to profile advocates across issues including ocean plastic pollution, reforestation, food waste, and conservation. By centering authentic human stories: from a zero-waste chef to a 16-year-old (at the time) eco-activist, the series made environmental urgency personal and accessible. Each episode was designed to be shareable and educational, distributed by WBD linear channels and Social Media. And with so many more stories still waiting to be told, Change Drivers is far from finished.

Results

Change Drivers reached over 200 million viewers globally across 160 countries, demonstrating the extraordinary scale of our ability to turn purpose-driven storytelling into worldwide impact. The series successfully brought critical environmental issues to a massive, diverse global audience, far exceeding the reach of a typical CSR initiative.

The series has also earned industry recognition, having been honored with three prestigious awards: the Gema Awards 2025 (Silver) & 2026 (Gold) and Promax 2023 (Gold), cementing its reputation as a benchmark for purposeful, high-quality content in the media industry.
