Agency Guacamole B.L.N.D. 2025: Progress Under Siege: Fighting for DE&I in Beauty and Beyond

Entered in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Objective

At a pivotal moment when many organizations are retreating from DE&I commitments, Agency Guacamole set out to do the opposite: to lead with conviction. Our vision for B.L.N.D. (Beauty, Lifestyle and Nurturing Diversity), founded in 2018 by Bilal Kaiser, was to create a purpose-driven platform that moves beyond performative dialogue and into tangible cultural impact within the beauty and lifestyle industries.

B.L.N.D. was designed as an intimate yet influential panel and networking series that convenes key opinion leaders, brand executives, editors and emerging content creators with both the reach and responsibility to shape industry standards. Our target audience included marketing and communications professionals, founders, diverse creators and media voices seeking both community and actionable insight in the beauty and lifestyle space.

Working with a lean, self-funded event budget designed to prioritize speaker diversity, accessible venues and meaningful production over spectacle, we focused on substance. Every element, from speaker selection to audience curation, was intentional to ensure conversations translated into measurable shifts in hiring practices, creator partnerships and brand storytelling.

More than an event series/campaign, B.L.N.D. serves as a catalyst: a safe, elevated forum where nuanced conversations around representation, equity and opportunity can unfold with honesty and accountability. Our goal was not simply to host a panel, but to cultivate a community equipped to carry inclusive practices forward, transforming influence into durable change.

Strategy

Our approach to the 9th annual B.L.N.D. (Beauty, Lifestyle & Nurturing Diversity) was anchored in three pillars: cultural relevance, intentional curation and integrated amplification.

Research and analysis directly shaped our strategy. Through continuous monitoring of platform updates, creator discourse and brand sentiment, we identified growing concern around algorithmic bias, shifting beauty standards and representation gaps as technology increasingly influences consumer discovery. Simultaneously, brands were accelerating investments in AI and digital tools without clearly defined equity frameworks. These insights informed our programming theme and structure, ensuring the conversation addressed innovation through a lens of accountability and inclusion.

The panel series was held last fall in LA and the theme was Progress Under Siege: Fighting for DE&I in Beauty and Beyond. Moderated by Bilal Kaiser, Principal at Agency Guacamole, the panel convened leaders across brand, retail and creator ecosystems: Lisa Price, Founder of Carol’s Daughter; Monica Ravi-Conway, Beauty Creator; and Jessica Phillips, VP of Merchandising at Ulta Beauty. The event brought together hundreds of industry leaders, creators and KOLs for meaningful conversations around DE&I and reinforced our commitment to championing diverse voices in our professional category—values reflected in the partners we work with, creators we elevate and content we produce every day.

To reinforce our mission visually and experientially, we developed cohesive creative assets deployed across Instagram, LinkedIn, Eventbrite, email marketing and on-site collateral: ensuring consistency and brand recognition at every touchpoint. Guest curation was equally deliberate. We assembled a cross-sector audience of executives, editors, creators and community advocates: individuals positioned to translate insight into tangible action within their organizations and networks.

Our multi-channel communications strategy sustained momentum from launch through event day. Registration-driven announcements, panelist spotlights (amplified by speaker cross-promotion), teaser emails, deadline reminders and live social coverage ensured both awareness and urgency.

Finally, immersive brand activations bridged conversation and practice. Agency Guacamole designed and executed experiential moments embodying inclusive innovation: Carol’s Daughter Boutique & Ingredient Bar highlighting hero products and formulation transparency; Dermablend Dessert Cart paired with a live shade-matching station; and Baxter of California custom-branded claw machine creating an interactive product discovery moment.

Producing B.L.N.D. at scale required navigating operational, budgetary and timing constraints while maintaining a premium, mission-driven experience.

One of the initial challenges was the complexity of programming across speakers, sponsors, production, gifting and communications. To address this, we implemented a centralized master tracker aligning internal teams, sponsors and warehouse partners in real time. This ensured visibility across timelines, deliverables and inventory, significantly reducing miscommunication and last-minute friction.

With multiple brand partners involved, warehousing and assembly presented logistical complexity. The structured tracker proved highly effective for inventory management and distribution accuracy. Agency Guacamole initially explored a “shopping-style” gifting experience but attendee feedback revealed a strong preference for pre-assembled, premium gift bags rooted in ease and efficiency. Looking ahead, we will elevate personalization through curated bag tiers.

Through structured project management, adaptive decision-making and detailed post-event analysis, we transformed logistical challenges into strategic insights: ensuring each iteration of B.L.N.D. is more refined, efficient and impactful than the last.

Results

We successfully met, and in many cases exceeded, our initial goals for this year’s B.L.N.D. campaign, achieving:

Together, these results advanced our mission of elevating diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) within beauty and beyond.

Our public relations strategy was deeply tied to Agency Guacamole’s organizational goals: position B.L.N.D. not just as an event, but as a movement driving meaningful dialogue around equity and representation. We launched pre‑event press outreach across a wide range of relevant new outlets spotlighting B.L.N.D.’s purpose, theme and panelists. This coverage helped mainstream the narrative around DE&I at a time when the industry is at a critical inflection point, reinforcing inclusive innovation is both culturally necessary and commercially relevant.

Evaluation and measurement were embedded throughout the campaign.

  1. Pre‑event metrics: registration conversions and social RSVPs tracked via Eventbrite and internal dashboards informed promotional cadence and timing.
  2. Engagement analytics: leveraged social listening tools and platform insights to monitor reach, mentions, sentiment and influencer amplification in real time.
  3. On‑site data: QR code scans, activation interactions and gift redemption provided quantifiable touch points linking attendee engagement to sponsor visibility.

Our PR efforts not only amplified the event but strengthened our role as a leader in driving inclusive cultural impact within the beauty and lifestyle landscape.
