Danyel Smith says she is “just trying to be me / doin’ what i gotta do,” while also writing and editing the online culture sections for both ESPN and The Undefeated. Besides being the first African-American editor of Billboard, she and partner Elliott Wilson founded HRDCVR, the multistream publication and Kickstarter success story, with a mission to change the soul of journalism. With nearly 35K Twitter followers, Danyel has broken the mold of niche, mainstream media by understanding that we all don’t fit into the molds we’re given. While she has many years in the journalism game, we’ve only just begun to see what @danamo is capable of creating.
