About Hilgos Foundation

The Hilgos Foundation supports artistic creation for people who have different forms of dementia including Alzheimer’s. The Foundation co-produced I Remember Better When I Paint, a documentary narrated by Olivia de Havilland on the positive impact of creative arts on people with Alzheimer’s and how this can reduce stigma around the disease. The film shows the intersection between the arts, medical and scientific worlds. It has aired on PBS, TV outlets in Asia and Europe and is also on DVD. The Hilgos Foundation is an active user of social media, in particular Twitter, to provide support and hope to caregivers, to connect the Alzheimer's community and to educate people on the disease. In 2012, the Hilgos Foundation founded #AlzChat, a weekly Twitter driven chat where Alzheimer's carers and experts share on a new dementia caregiving topic each week. The chat was recently mentioned in a Huffington Post column: "A great resource....is called AlzChat, where experts discuss via Twitter Alzheimer's related issues every Monday at 3 p.m. It's a great way to learn more, network, and raise awareness for Alzheimer's all from the comfort of a smart phone." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nick-norton/ten-things-caregiving-tau_b_4506427.html
