Objectives

WWE Superstars are larger-than-life personalities who perform in front of thousands of fans, and millions of TV viewers every week. Still, no matter the heights of their fame, these athletes have to deal with parents trying to embarrass them. A World Champion still asks his father to do his laundry. The most villainous Superstar is still a perfect little angel in the eyes of his mother. "My Son/Daughter is a WWE Superstar" looked to explore the unique relationship between pro wrestlers and their moms and dads.

Strategy and Execution

For much of WWE's digital content, our aim is to show viewers a side of the Superstar they've never seen before. The six-episode season, shot on-location in the homes where our stars grew up, aimed to reveal the personal stories of what it's like growing up with a dream to be a pro wrestler. To do their stories justice, we produced episodes as long as 16 minutes for a candid look at the parent-child dynamics within their household.

The six episodes were shot everywhere from Montreal to Carlsbad as a team of producers traveled to the homes of WWE Superstars' parents for an in-depth interview and a response interview from the wrestlers, then visited some local spots that hold special meaning for the respective family. WWE Superstar Kevin Owens went to the video store where his father rented the wrestling tape that sparked Kevin's interest in wrestling. Nia Jax visited the high school where she learned to not accept being normal. Braun Strowman ventured to the off-the-beaten-path gym where he trained to become a strongman. Mandy Rose showcased the family deli where she worked as a high schooler. Titus O'Neil surprised children at the ministry he helps to support. Lastly, Carmella returned to the dance school that sparked her love for entertainment.

The parents opened up about the challenges of raising a future wrestler — like watching their child move across the country to pursue their dreams — and the joys of seeing them become a champion.

Results

The six-episode run was viewed more than 12 million times across WWE's official website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.
