The Shorty Interview
with twtrsymphony

What's your best tweet?
Calling all musicians! Join a new concept in the symphony orchestra - TwtrSymphony.
What are six things you could never do without?
Music, friends, music, friends, music and friends.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
Twitter IS our life...
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Tweetdeck, although Hootsuite is quickly gaining!
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter! Facebook is a nice augmentation of Twitter - but Twitter is our primary voice. Twitter, then FB, then website.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
#classicrock was a great meem as it combined classical pop bands and/or songs with classic composers - smart and funny!
What feature should Twitter add?
Twitter Voting - a way to vote (not just favorite) for tweets which then Twitter re-tweets from the original tweeter when they get 10+
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Thanks to Sally Whitwell @sallywhitwell for pointing out Philip Glass IS on Twitter @GlassNotesBlog ...
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
... I have none. While I don't shorten words initially, there is none I would refuse to shorten to get the point across.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Alex Ross @alexrossmusic - probably the defactor voice in classical music today.
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
I unfollow people who use Twitter to spread hate. Hate has no place in this world, or on my twitter feed.
Why should we vote for you?
We are by our very nature, social media. We were created via social media, we exist via social media, we share via social media
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
#NewMusic Musicians use it to reflect on new music in their life. Wish more people could experience the power of new music.
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
The musicians we have connected with, but in and outside the orchestra. They are truly involved with the world in many ways.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
How do you make your tweets unique?
The way we make music is unique. Bringing our music to Twitter (social media) adds to the difference between us and standard orchestras.
What inspires you to tweet?
All music, pop, rock, classical, jazz, urban. While we focus on classical music, all genres have value and worth talking about.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Oh yea!!! We can get overly passionate about music... even landed in Twitter Jail because of it!
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Get involved! Talk to people; let them know what you think.
How long can you go without a tweet?
8 hours (if I'm sleeping)
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Why did you first start using Twitter? and/or What do you see yourself doing with Twitter in 2-5 years?
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
Becoming even more important in political and social change
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
@ChipMichael - he is the creator of TwtrSymphony & built a solid reputation in the music world via social media. He is involved!
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That isn't filled with a bunch of Social Media & Real Estate people trying to sell something.
Why should people follow you?
We are a new concept in orchestra music. We are taking classical music in a new direction - to the people.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
How do you decide what to tweet?
What I'm thinking at the moment - very 'now' centric.
How do you use social media to motivate yourself or others to live a healthier life?
We promote & share new music. We encourage others to engage in music, & find ways to express themselves - to live life!
How has social media helped bring your family closer together and #keepgoodgoing?
It is what makes us a family... a family of musicians, who have never met.
Why'd you start tweeting?
We are an orchestra made up of musicians on Twitter. We sort of have to tweet; it IS who we are.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
YES. We exist because of Twitter. We are because of the connection Twitter has created among our musicians.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Get involved. There are lots of links & call to action items that go unnoticed.
How will the world change in the next year?
Social change is coming, maybe not the next year, but the anger between left & right is going to break soon.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Not fixing the hacks that send DM's with bogus links
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
Thinking/communicating in the cloud will be common place. Public opinion will dominate all elements of society via social media.
