twitchhiker
twitchhiker needs your nomination for a Shorty Award!
In March 2009, I travelled from the UK to New Zealand in 30 days, relying entirely on the goodwill and generosity of Twitter. Together we raised over £5,000 for charity: water.

What's your best tweet?
Not sure I have one. When I travelled around the world using Twitter , I guess it was the tweet that convinced the next person to help me.

What are six things you could never do without?
Family, friends, sleep, NYC, the internet... and Twitter.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
As a writer, it's my support network, my inspiration, my source of information, my water cooler - it's my social network.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Tweetdeck on the desktop, Tweetie on the iPhone. Other apps have more bells and whistles, but I like simple.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter. Facebook has more features but it isn't anywhere near as functional.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Douglas Adams. He would have adored Twitter.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
I don't shorten any. If I can't write it correctly in 140 characters, I rewrite it. That's my former life as a copywriter haunting me.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Not really - that's not how it works, is it? Followers aren't badges to wear and it's not a numbers game.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Why should we vote for you?
Because I did something unique with Twitter, and because it's not just a vote for me, but everyone who played their part in my success.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
#freepizza #worldpeace #fireflyseason2 #charitywater #monkeytennis
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
How do you make your tweets unique?
I try and be interesting and honest. It's fun to experiment, too - I'm enjoying using @AudioBoo to squirt audio into Twitter.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
What inspires you to tweet?
Anything and everything - sometimes tweeting is purely cathartic, other times it's a desire to share.

140 characters of advice for a new user?
Don't be shy. Roll your sleeves up and get stuck in. Follow people, ask questions, have an opinion. Share yourself, be honest, have fun.

What question are we not asking here that we should?
What next?
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Why'd you start tweeting?
I always like to try new things early and at least once, and Twitter doesn't make complete sense without trying it, so...
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Without a doubt. Twitchhiker was the adventure of a lifetime. Twitter touches on every aspect of my life - at home, at work, when I travel.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Using Twitter to broadcast. Newspapers especially could build loyalty if they interacted with followers, instead of regurgitating headlines.
Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
Probably not too different. Hopefully a little safer, a little happier. We still won't have flying cars and jetpacks though, dammit.
