The Shorty Interview
with Leah Golby
What's your best tweet?
To answer this question would take time that I don't have & it's subjective. Best tweet was informative & clever.
What are six things you could never do without?
My kid. Coffee. Great neighbors. Family. Friends. Fresh air.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
As a Council Member, I use Twitter to communicate with constituents. Twitter feed goes my newsletter blog & is updated more frequently.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
It varies depending on my use. I don't like apps w/ advertising in my feed.
Twitter or Facebook?
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Sad but true, I don't check Twitter trends. shhh...don't tell.
What feature should Twitter add?
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Having a Twitter account and *using* Twitter in a meaningful way are 2 different things. So, it depends.
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
There are probably none. It's sad what we've done to the English language on Twitter, and I am guilty of it every day.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Yes. I can't remember who. Why: usually because most tweets weren't of interest to me, though some were.
Why should we vote for you?
I use Twitter to share information and engage my community on important issues.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Too many to name - lots of new connections around the corner re :Albany stuff & around the world re: transit stuff.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#Imjustnotthatcleversorry.
How do you make your tweets unique?
My tweets are short thoughts of items of interest to my neighbors & followers w/ compelling #hashtags.
What inspires you to tweet?
Information, articles, and things posted by others on Twitter.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Follow your interests. If you don't know what a hashtag is, you'll get the hang of it. Remember, there's still the real world.
How long can you go without a tweet?
I almost went a whole week without tweeting. I needed a break. Usually, can't go more than 12 hours. #addictive
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Has Twitter made your life easier, more complicated, or both? Explain.
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
I generally don't imagine change in apps, I'll leave that to the folks in that industry.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
I don't use Twitter for humor most of the time. But, I do follow The Daily Show -- lots of good humor there.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it's "hard to get"
Why should people follow you?
Ppl on Twitter interested in issues facing Albany or sustainable transit should follow me to stay informed & communicate ideas.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
@LutzFernandez, @Richard_Florida, @JCEvangelist_TU, @MichaelTG09
How do you decide what to tweet?
Tweeting is like using a highlighter well. Just the nuggets.
Why'd you start tweeting?
It seemed like a curious platform for sharing information, it took me a while to catch on.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Yes. I get more information, more quickly than ever & it's a great platform for connecting on matters of interest. I <3 hashtags.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Won't know until I see it.
How will the world change in the next year?
If I could answer that question, I'd have a lot more money than I do now.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
I think we all know at least one answer to that one.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
I hope that it takes a turn in a positive direction with less income disparity, cleaner air and more cause for celebration.
