What's your best tweet?
Overheard (re: Ares 1-X cover): "We polled our engineers & the troubleshooting plan is- pull as hard as you can."
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I've made many contacts throughout NASA that I'd never have met w/out Twitter- enabling collaboration, constructive communication, etc.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Right now it's TwitBirdPro for iPhone. I gave feedback, & the developer listened & incorporated my suggestions in an update. Awesome!
Twitter or Facebook?
Definitely Twitter. The 3rd party apps on Facebook are a bit too much for me. I don't have that kind of spare time.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
It never trended, but I think the hashtag #AWSURLATASS is pretty funny: Astronomers Who Stay Up Really Late And Talk About Stupid Stuff.
What feature should Twitter add?
If someone with a protected profile follows you, you should automatically be able to view their acct. Otherwise it just enables stalking.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Charlie Bolden, NASA's administrator. I think he'd enjoy it & gain great insight on how Twitter can help achieve education/outreach goals.
Why should we vote for you?
If I win, it will help me to promote the Space Tweep Society & further spread enthusiasm for space/astronomy, which is desperately needed!
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
spacetweeps, NASA, GLXP, spacevidcast, spaceflightnow, evadot, moonwatch, meteorwatch, astrospacenow, talkingspace
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#spacetweeps
What inspires you to tweet?
I want to show people that the space program isn't staffed by a bunch of scientists running around in lab coats & share a bit of what we do.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Don't just broadcast information. The power of Twitter is in the communities that are created; the interactiveness is what makes it work.
How long can you go without a tweet?
Not very long. Only a few hours, as sick and twisted as that may be.
Why'd you start tweeting?
A friend sent me an "invitation" & I was curious. What's funny is she didn't end up tweeting after sending the invite. I'm over 13,000 tweets
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Twitter has changed my long term career focus- now it is the public outreach/education aspect of space rather than the nuts & bolts of it.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Tweet original content rather than just retweets or links. RTs & links are important, but I follow someone to hear what *they* have to say.
How will the world change in the next year?
At the moment the US space program has no formal direction. At some point in 2010, the president will announce the path it will take.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Once I had someone RT me- except I never tweeted anything even remotely like what they RTed. I'd say that was a big Twitter faux pas.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
I'd like to think that there will be a resurgence of interest in space exploration, perhaps with more focus on commercial space endeavors.
