with Michael Scott Author
What's your best tweet?
Always get the best responses to the obscure historical trivia I've come across.
What are six things you could never do without?
Books. Music. Tea. Chocolate. The beach. The desert.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
As a way of instantly connecting and communicating with my readers.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Hootsuite. Loving the columns.
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter everytime. I've set it up so my tweets are copied to my Facebook page.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Has to be all the Tiger Woods jokes.
What feature should Twitter add?
video twits: little 20 second video clips - easy enough to do now with web cams and mobile phones.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Every politician of every stripe and party should have a feed - and update it themselves.
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
Personal names and book titles.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Always nice to be followed by writers and artists you admire. Maybe Hans Zimmer (when he gets around to tweeting!)
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
When they stop having interesting things to say.
Why should we vote for you?
It would be incredibly arrogant for me to answer that!
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Tweeting about an author and having them connect. Tweeting about music and having the band offer me their new album to listen to.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#chocolatechipicecream
How do you make your tweets unique?
Most are related to the book I'm writing and often contain clues to the story.
What inspires you to tweet?
The opportunity to share what interests me and then finding people with similar interests.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Not yet. I only tweet what interests me!
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Take your time. Start slow. Engage your readers. Give them a reason to pause and follow your link. Keep it interesting!
How long can you go without a tweet?
Not long - and getting shorter all the time!
What question are we not asking here that we should?
How do we make twitter generally available, accessible and ubiquitous. It can be an incredibly powerful tool, but its tainted by trivia.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
Really like what @levarburton is doing. Just watched him rally his 1.5 million followers to raise money for the earthquake in Haiti.
Why'd you start tweeting?
A bunch of my fans said - "you've got to do this." And they were right.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
On my last book tour, my followers made plans on twitter to come to the signings and I "knew" a lot of them before I'd even met them.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
How will the world change in the next year?
For the better I hope - though I'm not so sure about the weather!
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Spelling mistakes or links which go nowhere!
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
As a writer of speculative fiction, I'm suppose to be able to guess. I could NOT have remotely guessed in 2000 what 2010 would be like!
