The Shorty Interview
with Betty Dravis
What's your best tweet?
My best one is the one that leads people to vote for me in THE SHORTY AWARDS. And that was created by the Awards Comm. Can't beat that!
What are six things you could never do without?
My family, basic living necessities, Bible, books, computer and writing materials.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I've mentioned this previously: We authors help pass the word & links about our books. Shorty Awards is a good example of how friends help.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
I don't have a favorite; I like the one that is on my Kindle Fire. I do adore that cute little bird in all its forms.
Twitter or Facebook?
Does their have to be a choice? I like them both: Twitter for brevity & fun & PR with friends; Facebook 4 photos, book promotion & friends.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
It was hilarious how everyone jumped to "put down" Britney Spears when she was going through her problems; so many different opinions.
What feature should Twitter add?
I haven't thought about it, so can't think of anything off the top of my head.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
I suppose it would be Facebook. Hmmmm...
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
The only ones I would refuse to shorten are Holy names of Jesus, God, etc...or words that when shortened form a curse word.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
If Clint Eastwood were on there, I'd want him to follow me. Other than that I can't think of a soul. Brad Pitt just won't do... :-)
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
It was a girl that I didn't really know. She had invited me to follow her. I unfollowed when she switched profile pic to a photo in a bra.
Why should we vote for you?
John Locke says I'm "a treasure"; Grady Harp asks "who could resist me"; Clint Eastwood made my day. I'm a devoted Mom & dedicated writer.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
I'm not that serious about it; I just go with the flow & have a good time. You pros can change things, but "don't fix it if it ain't broken."
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Many interesting people on Twitter; mostly authors who believe in helping each other. I met John Locke who wrote foreword 4 my last book.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
I haven't created any hashtags. I'm learning as I go. One I would like to create would be #Eastwood. Have no idea why...
How do you make your tweets unique?
I'm not sure mine are unique. I just get the message I want to send out & try to maintain some humor. I love to tease people; keeps me young.
What inspires you to tweet?
I'm just a little Tweety-bird by nature. :-) I don't look for a reason to do it, but it's a good way to keep in touch with my friends.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Never! At my age I can do mostly what I want. Privilege of age. My kids r happy my mind is sharp & I have energy to do all I do. See my bio.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
KISS = Keep it short, sweetie! "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and you'll get along fine with everything you do. Enjoy!
How long can you go without a tweet?
I go hours without a Tweet when writing a manuscript or eating. :-) But then I have dozens waiting in my e-mail. I answer those & Tweet more.
What question are we not asking here that we should?
You're doing fine, IMO. I find this rather interesting. You could perhaps ask why I like Twitter. Hmmmm...
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
I imagine it just getting bigger & bigger with more people joining daily. I hope they don't change too much. I like it AS IS.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
I think author Niamh Clune makes great use of Twitter to promote her books and various websites that help authors.
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
The funniest person I follow on Twitter is Bill Zucker, but Jay Leno is funny too.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That all people talk about on Twitter is what they had for lunch, what TV show they're watching, etc. That is so-ooo not true. I learn a lot.
Why should people follow you?
Because I'm a nice, well-respected lady with a sweet personality & am loved by all. I'm known 4 helping new authors (edit advice & reviews).
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
To me, everyone I follow is one-of-a-kind; each person is unique. I write, so I follow writers; I interview celebs, so I follow them.
How do you decide what to tweet?
I Tweet about my books, friends' books, daily happenings & news items that are informative, interesting & helpful to others. Sort of by ear..
Why'd you start tweeting?
I received a lot of invitations via e-mail. Gave it a try and I enjoyed it, so kept at it. It's easy and fun too.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
It's made it easier and quicker to finish online work because I don't have to write too long; I enjoy the brevity of it. It helps sell books.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Instead of Retweeting silly, fun things I Tweet, I wish they'd RT the links to my books, blogs and important career material.
How will the world change in the next year?
I'm praying it will change for the better, with more jobs opening up & the housing market improving. We need to reign in our politicians.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
OMG, Twitter doesn't make faux pas, does it? :-)
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
If I knew that answer, I'd run for office. :-) I'm 83, so have already "made a difference." Control banks & politicians & we'll survive.
