The Shorty Interview
with The Trevor Project
What's your best tweet?
Be your own Valentine first and foremost. Love is something we must feel for ourselves before we seek it from others.
What are six things you could never do without?
suicide prevention efforts, youth advocates, acceptance, equality, love and YOU.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
Twitter is the ultimate cross-promotional platform. We can quickly RT relevant tweets to our followers and ask the same of our partners.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Tweetdeck and Hootsuite are two favorites.
Twitter or Facebook?
Can't live without both! All social media platforms help spread the word ★
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
You are loved. Your life is meaningful. Never give up.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
@LadyGaga - She has used her fame to promote several pro-LGBT causes and celebrates diversity in all its forms. #bornthisway
Why should we vote for you?
Because every young person is valuable, their life is meaningful and they are deserving of love.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
The new connections we make with youth and supporters of our mission every day constantly inspire us.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#ItGetsBetter - as proud partners in this campaign, we want youth everywhere to know that a brighter future awaits them.
How do you make your tweets unique?
We try to tweet a mix of suicide prevention resources, advocacy work, new initiatives and upcoming events.
What inspires you to tweet?
The need to replace feelings of pain, rejection and isolation with that of love, compassion and respect.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Don't just be a follower. Participate in the conversation and think before you tweet. 140 characters can still hold substance and meaning.
How long can you go without a tweet?
If you follow us, you'll get updates almost every day!
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That the majority of users are teens. More adults and professionals use Twitter than the <21 audience.
Why should people follow you?
Because we are determined to end suicide among LGBTQ youth by providing life-saving and life-affirming resources.
How do you decide what to tweet?
A good tweet is like the perfect outfit: smart & sophisticated, with a subtle flair that sparks an instant trend.
Why'd you start tweeting?
To raise awareness of the startling statistics surrounding LGBTQ youth suicide.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
It's helped us reach an entirely new demographic who might have never heard of us otherwise.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Point their twitter followers toward good causes worth supporting.
How will the world change in the next year?
Donations to charities and NPOs will reach an all-time high as more people and businesses think of creative ways to "give back."
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Tweeting too frequently or only promoting yourself. No one likes a pushy, shameless self-promoter.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
A place where LGBTQ youth can be proud of who they are without fear of ridicule, harassment or prejudice.
