The Shorty Interview
with Safer Chemicals

What's your best tweet?
What are six things you could never do without?
1. Our 450 coalition partners 2. Our millions of online members 3. Congress, to pass laws that protect us 4. Good science showing the links between chemicals and adverse health trends 5. Passion to take action and tell our friends 6. The internet – how else would we get things done?
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
What inspires you to tweet?
Our friends are being diagnosed with cancer in their twenties, pregnant women have hundreds of toxic chemicals in their bodies and early puberty being called "the new normal." We are inspired to tweet by the moral and urgent need to get tough on unregulated, toxic chemicals in the products we use everyday.
Why should people follow you?
Activism consists of efforts to change the status quo, knowing that we can do better to protect our health, community, environment than we are right now.  Our campaign has taken a complex issue that very few knew about, and we made it mainstream.  As a result, we’ve engaged millions of supporters across sectors, from public health to environment, Members of Congress, bloggers and celebrities.  Unregulated chemicals in our food, sofas, and baby bottles (to name a few) are hurting people and we can do something about it by passing the #SafeChemicalsAct.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
@StopJoeChemical, @jessicaalba, @honest, @jenniferbeals, @groovygreenlivi, @envirobooty
How do you use social media to motivate yourself or others to live a healthier life?
We share blog posts, stories, pictures and videos about ways to take action on toxic chemicals. We share information about chemicals to avoid, personal stories of the need for cancer prevention and we make the science around toxic chemicals easy to understand -- that way you don't have to be a chemist to stay healthy.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Take action on the issues they care about and directly tweet at their Senators about passing the #SafeChemicalsAct
