The Shorty Interview
with Amy Lupold Bair
What's your best tweet?
Announcing Sitewarming Parties by Resourceful Mommy http://bit.ly/7Y63... (circa 2008)
What are six things you could never do without?
1- Caffeine 2 - My family 3 - A furry pet 4 - Food 5 - Water 6 -Shelter
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
For the better part of the last 15 months, Twitter & my professional life were interchangeable. My biggest use? Hosting Twitter parties.
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Sideline. A girl's gotta' be able to follow the trends!
Twitter or Facebook?
Two months ago I would have screamed Twitter from the rooftops. Now I say both. I'm loving a little Facebook these days.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
What feature should Twitter add?
I'd love to see an RSS feed integration that would place a link to the blogger's most recent blog post below each tweet.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
David Sedaris. If it weren't for the fact that he would likely forget how to log on, his tweets would be the funniest 140 characters ever.
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Whenever David Sedaris gets around to creating his account, I think I should be his first follow. Just sayin'.
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Yes, but I certainly don't remember the account names. I have unfollowed abusive hecklers and dirty old men...for self-explanatory reasons.
Why should we vote for you?
On any other platform I'm just another person making a go of it, but on Twitter I'm an #advertising innovator. 140 is what I do & love best.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
#GotMilk. I'm about to host an event launching Milk's Great Gallon Give. I'd love to see it trend like our #ChocolateMilk events.
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
I bonded over nothing more than a shared laundry day with @slpowell. We now work together nearly full time & are growing a booming business.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#TU - Thumbs Up. The #TU at the beginning or end of a retweet takes the place of the "like this" after a Facebook status update.
How do you make your tweets unique?
They are 100% my personality. For that reason I've never used auto-DM's or sponsored tweets. I can't be anything but myself.
What inspires you to tweet?
My initial inspiration in the summer of 2008 was to connect with other moms, particularly those in the blogging community.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Frequently. In fact I have a back-up account for when I am thrown into Twitter jail during an event. But I tweet quickly. VERY quickly.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Be yourself. Don't drunk tweet. Take a deep breath before you unfollow. Don't spam trending hashtags. Interrupt conversations often.
How long can you go without a tweet?
Days...but when that happens someone usually alerts the authorities that I have been kidnapped. Okay, not really, but almost.
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Why are the Shorty Awards important to you?
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
Jessica Smith of @JessicaKnows because her open and honest approach to tweeting with both brands and bloggers was groundbreaking.
Why'd you start tweeting?
I began tweeting after #FB provided a taste of what social media had to offer. I hoped to find like-minded tweeps & freelance writing jobs.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
A year ago my goal was to find a source of income that would allow me to stay home with my children. Twitter has given me that and more.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Read their Twitter streams. Being able to click on our @replies and DM's has made us lazy users. We should take more time to explore!
How will the world change in the next year?
It will continue to shrink at a phenomenal pace. Someday soon frat brothers will be inventing 3 Degrees of Kevin Bacon. 6 is no longer needed
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
The auto-DM when someone follows you is just the kiss of death. Please don't tell me you LOVE me already & are so happy to tweet me. Please.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
I just learned that HP released a touchscreen computer in 1984. Maybe in 10 years we'll be excited about the "new" technology cassette tapes!
