The Shorty Interview
with Ian Cook

What's your best tweet?
my next tweet is always my best one, or maybe one that links to my shorty nomination... http://shortyaward... :)
What are six things you could never do without?
Pop, bang, colour, cars, art and twitter.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
Everyday, I am followed by people who work in the car/motorsport/event industry so it's important update what i'm doing, where and when
What's your favorite Twitter app?
It was Twitpic, I still use it but use instagram more now. I like Twitcam to do live-feeding from the studio.
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter - a Supporting Facebook page is useful for business - but mine links to twitter anyway. Definitely Twitter.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
When Susan Boyle's Album party was announced the hashtag was #susanalbumparty - brilliant.
What feature should Twitter add?
I think with all the bolt on apps, and programmes there are plenty of options out there... I genuinely can't think of something missing.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
My cat, i'd like to know what he is thinking on occasions if cats could talk they would be great roaming devices to collect information with
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
I think it's important to say all what you need to say in 140 characters. If not send a link to a blog / facebook page.
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
I've always been a F1 fan, Jake Humphrey used to front the coverage and i'd like him too... @mrjakehumphrey
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
I like to follow people with active accounts, as twitter is about now, so occasionally I have. But follow @popbangcolour, he's cool, i hear.)
Why should we vote for you?
I'm the only artist in the world who paints with radio controlled cars, tyres & wheels. I post funny things and have a cat called Pimms.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
#Popbangcolourtowinshortyartaward2013voteforhimnowaslastyearhecame5thandthisyearhewouldliketowinorbeinthetop3atleastthankyou
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
That the world on occasions is a small place, and that 140 characters over 5 years can make 27,500 tweets. That's a lot of words.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#PopbangColour as it's three words, all happy words and with a British flavour to it too.
How do you make your tweets unique?
I tweet as I paint, I talk about the car and art industry and I do live-feeding of artworks being created too. I also tweet photos of my cat
What inspires you to tweet?
I think at times it can be a online diary for the world to share, and be part of, if people choose.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
I like to tweet. Like an wise owl would say tweet-twooo. Or something like that... I don't tweet photos of my breakfast anymore.
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Tweet because you want to tweet, Think before you tweet, Enjoy tweets from others, Keep within the 140 characters. Don't over tweet.
How long can you go without a tweet?
I've been concentrating on this questionnaire so I haven't tweeted as much as I would normally. There would be a dip in my stats. :)
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Why 36 questions? and one of them is a question about the amount of questions? :)
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
I think it will evolve, and I am sure new features will appear, both on mobile devices and for desktops/laptops/computers
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
It's got to @ToyotaPR by Scott Brownlee he's very good at communicating a corporate message but with a personal touch. Top bloke too
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
@KeithWRjones a brilliant automotive blogger and good friend too
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it can't be understood or that it's a bad thing. To me, it's a tool to be part of conversations and to enjoy. It's a fun thing.
Why should people follow you?
If they like cars, art, and the occasion laugh i'm worth following. I paint with cars, what's not to like? :)
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
@vickiisted photographs my artwork so thats pretty unique. @Queen_UK makes me laugh & @A1GOY drives a car wrapped in my art
How do you decide what to tweet?
It's just part of my routine, everyday stuff - It's good to be personable and interactive with people and make conversation.
How do you use social media to motivate yourself or others to live a healthier life?
The creative arts industry can be a tough one to work in, I follow and support fellow creatives who are in a similar situation/position
How has social media helped bring your family closer together and #keepgoodgoing?
i'm often working away, as I update as an event is going it means that they can see how it's going. does that make sense?
Why'd you start tweeting?
I was told by a friend of mine @Sue_Atkins about twitter back in 2008, once i got bitten by the communication bug I liked it.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Yes, completely - it's a crucial tool for my business, to get in touch with people and also to show the artwork I have created, in real time.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
I think there is a good balance, I like it when TweetUp's are organised so that it's not just an online meeting of people. more of that I say
How will the world change in the next year?
I will hopefully be taking @popbangcolour to America. That is the plan, this will change my world at least, if not the American art one.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Personally I wouldn't aggressively swear. as writing swear words, is probably worse than speaking them.
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
I'll be 39. that's a scary thought in itself.
