The Shorty Interview
with Poole Museum Service

What's your best tweet?
Can't remember - have a look!
What are six things you could never do without?
Family, art, history, computer, radio, book
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
It is now a major part of my professional life - I now receive more history enquiries on Twitter than on email!
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter every time - it is fun, a conversation, requires thought & dicipline, & like Stephen Fry says, it is like catching falling leaves
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Chris Moyles has got some ridiculously funny things trending, buthe one I am most pleased about is #askacurator
What feature should Twitter add?
A deck like Tweetdeck or Hootsuite
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth. They have a Twitter page but don't tweet or allow followers
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
I try very hard never to use text language & will only shorten as English language allows (e.g. &) + symbols & proper names!
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
I would like the Secretary of State for Culture & Minister of Culture to do so to see what fantastic things we are doing!
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
Yes, but only because I am such a keen tweep that I have exceeded my 2000 limit!
Why should we vote for you?
Becaue we provide a very active local history and information service for anyone intersted in the historic port & harbour of Poole
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Too any to mention, but some wonderful museums and heritage organisations across the globe, which is quite a magical thing
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
How do you make your tweets unique?
They are always thought about and composed for a purpose - I believe and hope!
What inspires you to tweet?
Everything and everyone!
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Some people might think, although I do most at home. But the organisation is now well recognised on Twitter so I think this is going
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Take a little time reading tweets from those who interest you then once you get used to doing it the length of tweets will come naturally
How long can you go without a tweet?
What question are we not asking here that we should?
Just why is Poole Museum Service so very, wonderfully fantastic?
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
I think Twitter may develop more defined sub-groupings, but I hope it doesn't, because I love its democratic nature
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
The obviou choice is Stephen Fry, but for the strength of its brand as a museum on Twitter I will go for Tate
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
Difficult one. I think we all have our moments and I follow quite a few comedians - many of them unintentional ones!
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it is just for people who want to follow celebs, or have nothing better to do. We like to do the first, but the second - oh, no!
Why should people follow you?
Becaue we provide an interesting, lively & interactive local history & information service for anyone who is interested in Poole
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
I can. Some of them are not one of a kind for entirely good reasons, however. Welford Writes intrigues me, I must say
How do you decide what to tweet?
We have a policy, which is flexible, but it has to meaningful, interesting or amusing, and at its best spontaneous
Why'd you start tweeting?
Because I could see a great opportunity to network & to promote our Museum Service
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Ye, I wake up with Twitter and go to bed with, no just after tweeting. Seriously, it is news and conversation rolled up
How will the world change in the next year?
I have little doubt Twitter will become more & more important to global communications and movements
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Don't tweet without thinking first; don't tweet without first thinking & don't tweet unless you have previously thought!
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
Twitter will be an extremely powerful tool for social change and interaction
