Read tweets from #racistlikeafox and #everydaysexism and you'll get the gist...
To provide a safe space for Indigenous Australians to share their stories, promote excellence, network with others & to make new friends.
To hear from a diverse range of proud and active Indigenous Australians each and every week.
Most of our hosts have their own personal accounts, and many have professional accounts as well.
To share some of stories, views & ideas, hopes & dreams, challenges & frustrations, & the strength & diversity of Indigenous Excellence.
@IndigenousX - but that's kinda cheating because it is actually about 40 people (so far), and I'm slightly biased towards it ;)
Who is your hero/role model/inspiration? And since you asked, mine are Uncle Bob Maza and Uncle Jimmy Little.
A 'Follow @IndigenousX' button... and an ejector seat for racism. I understand this may raise some logistical difficulties, but I'm hopeful.
Too many to list them all... I've made hundreds of new connections, and new friends, via Twitter. It opened doors I didn't even know existed.
Yes, during the #IndigenousXto10K campaign where we got @IndigenousX to 10,000+ followers and raised $10,000+ for @IndigenousLF, in 1 week.
One of our former hosts @MartinGHodgson summed it up perfectly when he voted: 'because... It's the best damn thing in the known universe!' :)
Culture, Identity, Community, Friends, Reciprocity... IndigenousX
That is made up entirely of boy band fans, spammers and trolls randomly yelling abuse at people... that's only 90% of twitter, 95% tops!
#TwitterDeadlys we have an annual awards night for the best Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander tweeps, in categories we make up on the night
Each host has control over what they want to tweet about. Which makes for much more fun, and makes it easier for hosts to be themselves.
I trained as a primary teacher so I am usually fairly pedantic about spelling and grammar, even on twitter. #GrammarNerd
Try to understand the perspectives of other people and do some basic research before jumping feet first into an argument.
If you have something important to say, say it. Be willing to take on new ideas and listen to other opinions. Be yourself and have fun!
Trusted social media sources will have all but replaced mainstream media for news and information.
@DeadlyBloggers - In many ways they are the @IndigenousX of the Bloggosphere :) Love their work!
Not really, we do alright as is...
Lots of people... I unfollow people if they tweet overt racism, sexism, homophobia or other forms of prejudice and discrimination.
No contest. Twitter win by a mile.
#racistlikeafox - it is for people to share insights into, and experiences of, racism.
IndigenousX is week in and week out. We haven't had to skip a week yet, and I hope we never do.
However we change it, or allow others to change it. Most change doesn't just happen, we make it happen... the good and the bad.
IndigenousX is for Indigenous Excellence but it stands for so much more! Follow us, join us & RT us - together we can make a difference!
Yes, I have made new friends, & new career opportunities, grown as an individual, and found a renewed sense of purpose via IndigenousX.
We have one new host on IndigenousX every week, so you never know who or what you are getting to get from week to week.
Our IndigenousX hosts for being brave enough to share a little bit of themselves with thousands of strangers. Always humbling and inspiring.
Deborah Mailman. Then she, @ShariLeeSebbo @JessicaMauboy & @missmirandatap could tweet songs from The Sapphires in 1st ever twitter concert!
Language translation features, better ways of dealing with trolls & spam, & they will give IndigenousX a blue tick! I can't wait for that :)
